This July, Netflix will finally bring us back to Hawkins for season three of Stranger Things. While the return of the show is extremely exciting on its own, an upcoming capsule collection will give everyone who plans to Netflix and chill poolside this summer the opportunity to experience it in a new dimension — by wearing items seen in the series.
The capsule collection is complete with graphic T-shirts and tanks, shorts, playsuits, swimwear and poolside accessories, all paying homage to the iconic 1980s styles of the show and lazy summer days by the pool. Fronting the campaign — suitably set at the Hawkins community pool — is Dacre Montgomery who plays Billy Hargrove in the series. In an exclusive interview with H&M Magazine, we catch up with the rising Australian actor ahead of the launch of the collection.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE? “The black, short-sleeved shirt was so comfortable. Sometimes for me, it’s less about the items itself and more about the way it fits. Is it light, breathable and most importantly flattering? That shirt possesses all of those qualities.”
ARE THERE ANY SIMILARITIES BETWEEN YOUR OWN TEENAGE YEARS AND BILLY HARGROVE’S? “Billy and I are almost completely polar opposites. I didn't drive at that age, I don’t smoke, I didn’t play sport, and I didn’t get any attention from girls!”
OUT OF ALL THE STRANGER THINGS CHARACTERS, WHO WOULD YOU SWAP WARDROBES WITH? “I would probably swap with Steve Harrington [played by Joe Keery]!”
DO YOU HAVE A STYLE ICON? “I definitely draw some style inspiration from the 1950s; the simplicity of men’s haircuts, clothes’ colour-palettes, oversized collars and the tailored trousers of that era. I think, it’s timeless.”
DO YOU HAVE ANY DEFINING STYLE MOMENTS? “Every time I walk a red carpet, wherever I’m lucky enough for that to be, my stylist and I build a look, often inspired by Errol Flynn, or Brad Pitt’s appearances through the late ’90s and early 2000s. I usually wear Brunello Cucinelli or chase a particular fabric. I love the challenge of achieving uniqueness and simplicity at the same time. My favourite moment would have to be at the SAG awards last year.”
THREE DREAMS TO CHECK OFF YOUR DREAM LIST? “Find another role I fall in love with, build, design and furnish, from ground up, my dream home, and release my podcast series.”
