The Dior Homme collection for Autumn 2018 celebrates the brand’s atelier as an eternal source of inspiration and artisanal savoir-faire. Reprising the concept of deconstruction and reconstruction of the Dior Homme suit, grain de poudre wool jackets and coats feature topstitched reverse details reminiscent of a tailor’s dummy, or embroidered ‘atelier’ labels tacked to the cuff.
A colour story of cobalt blue, and vermillion red creates moments of bright contrast suiting on a base of solid black, and fuses together on airbrush effect nylon outerwear, satin shirting, and filmy ombré knitwear. The airbrush effect continues across flight blousons, parkas, a backpack, and a weekend bag – appearing as a bold stripe down a satin tuxedo lapel.
In an evolving study of the house iconography, the ‘atelier’ logo stamp returns as a graphic leitmotif on baseball caps, boots, and an all-over print on shirting and small leathergoods. The Dior Homme bee design becomes a new embellishment, enlarged as a white pocket patch and scattered across a tuxedo jacket in genuine gold thread embroidery.
The Black Carpet looks injects an extreme opulence into the season’s dégradé effect, culminating in an all-over beaded evening suit and sheer tank top embroidered. A pure tuxedo features a double shawl collar closed with metal hardware, and elegant satin details are applied to a zipped jacket.
