Missoni Man Pre AW18

Unorthodox combinations of textures, abstract patterns and color recapture this explosive period of clashing ideologies, blurred social boundaries and cultural dynamism through a contemporary lens and give rise to our transient bohemian; part urbane sophisticate, part romantic nonconformist. The urban landscape, a background in constant motion with which he interacts.

A metropolis dappled with myriad dazzling lights is expressed through a color palette that transmits the vibrancy of the street. Bright bronze, red ochre, electric green and moss pop out like fluorescent graffiti against muted shades of electric blue and navy, black and bright cerulean, tar and kobe red, bone and copper.

Luxe wintertide cashmeres, mohairs and chunky shetland wools are knitted into cozy layers of warmth that envelop our protagonist and tie him to the provocative performances of his surrounds.

The street side unfolds in an assortment of loom-knit pullovers embroidered with the Missoni logo in multicolored threads; color-blocked knit pullovers, cardigans and polo necks with contrasting trims; down jackets in black or bright orange leather; bombers lined with Missoni knit fabric; corduroy coach jackets and oversized, double-breasted shearling coats in vivid contrasting colors: black leather with red and turquoise fur trim or green leather with purple and orange fur trim.

Rich sartorial pieces are softly tailored in Missoni’s exclusive loom-knit fabrics and include a chunky, oversized, double-breasted coat with peaked lapels in a chevron pattern and flecked with space-dyed yarns, as well as suiting in macro-check and houndstooth patterns.

Admiring his graphic use of form and color in his art, Missoni commissioned two designs from the New York-based Japanese artist, E-Wax, which have been used on various pieces throughout the collection. A brushed flannel work shirt, updated artist’s smock in shirting fabric and a fine-gauge wool crewneck have been printed in several variants with one of the artist’s designs, while another was used for an airy, oversized intarsia crewneck in brushed mohair.
