Allez Yorkshire: Get the Miles in...

Yorkshire shot to fame in 2014 when the region hosted the first two stages of the world’s most prestigious cycling race – the Tour de France. UK cycling fans rejoiced as this was Yorkshire’s chance to shine on the world stage and it did not disappoint...More than a million people turned out to watch at the roadside, royalty started the race, the Red Arrows made an appearance and the action came thick and fast from the start line. After this success, the Tour de Yorkshire was launched in 2015 and is now regarded as one of the biggest and best supported races in the UK.

Tour de Yorkshire 2018

This year, the Tour de Yorkshire will be bigger and better than ever before – attracting many big name riders showcasing even more glorious Yorkshire countryside over 4 fantastic days, including a 2 day womens race. It has 4 stages; Stage 1 starts in Beverley and finishes in Doncaster, Stage 2 starts in Barnsley and finishes in Ilkley, Stage 3 starts in Richmond and finishes in Scarborough and Stage 4 starts in Halifax and finishes in Leeds.

'We will see some of the very best cyclists in the world competing on Yorkshire’s roads to become the next champions. We will see female cyclists given complete parity with the men. We will see hundreds of journalists from across the globe descending on Yorkshire to not only report on the thrilling racing but also the incredible crowds and atmosphere the race attracts. And that’s where that positive beacon shines high and bright.' Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive Welcome to Yorkshire

Why cycle in Yorkshire?

The Yorkshire Dales is one of the finest landscapes in the country with quality cycling to be had along its seemingly endless network of quiet country lanes and dramatic climbs over the Dales, with barely a flat road to ride.

The whole area provides fabulous cycling opportunities for all abilities from gentle routes in the valleys to some challenging climbs over the moorland that separates them. From the wild and remote northern dales to the rolling farmland in the east, the cycling is always memorable for the fantastic scenery and beautiful villages along the way.
