Volvo XC40 Wins the Title 'Car of the Year 2018'


The winner of the “Car of the Year”-Award 2018 is the Volvo XC40. The Jury is made up of 60 journalists from 23 European countries. The final vote took place this afternoon, live from the Geneva International Motor, in the presence of international journalists. Hakan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo received the award.

The winner Volvo XC40 made the difference during the last tests and thus won, in front of its six competitors, the prestigious and very coveted award. The finalists of this year were: Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Audi A8, BMW 5 series, Citroën C3 Aircross, Kia Stinger, Seat Ibiza, Volvo XC40.

Hakan Samuelsson was very proud to be awarded this year’s trophy. “The XC40 really deserved this accolade. To receive it in Geneva is all the more rewarding as this is my favorite motor show.“ Volvo has been a finalist on a number of occasions, but this is the first time it has won this prestigious award, with 83 points separating it of its competitors. The President of the Jury, Frank Janssen, motoring journalist from the German magazine STERN handed over the trophy.

The criteria taken into consideration for the award are, in addition to the innovation and the security, the design and the value for money.
