The KARL LAGERFELD Spring-Summer 2018 collection features iconic wardrobe essentials that strike a balance between contemporary, feminine and athletic influences. Inspired by celestial constellations and galaxies, the collection’s key styles combine metallic finishes and iridescent fabrics with star motifs and kaleidoscopic, intersecting surfaces. These luxurious details are offset by a relaxed, athletic aesthetic, bringing an elegant twist to “sporty” classics.
KAPTAIN KARL
The collection includes a capsule titled Kaptain Karl, featuring Karl and Choupette sailing the high seas. Grounded in a palette of red, white and blue, the styles are topped with nautical graphics like anchors, naval stripes, sailor tattoos and Karl wearing a captain’s hat. KARL ESSENTIALS
Launching this season is the unisex Karl Essentials collection of day-to-day wardrobe essentials. Inspired by luxury sportswear, the relaxed designs include t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, joggers and caps. Crafted in black, white and grey, the mixand-match styles feature prominent KARL LAGERFELD logos and Rue Saint Guillaume motifs. Accessories include a sleek pouch and cardholder topped with an epoxy KARL LAGERFELD print and white border tape.
READY-TO-WEAR
The season’s principal motif is the star, which appears in angular lapels, stitching details, and a metallic constellation print jacquard. Shades of soft pink and lilac are mixed with graphic black and white, with accents of deep purple. The signature outfit is a pastel pink tuxedo with slim-fit trousers and an oversized blazer. To play with surface texture, styles juxtapose matte and glittery fabrics; a black satin crepe cocktail dress pairs effortlessly with a leather biker jacket with ornate stitching. Bringing classic shirting to a new level, a range of white shirts are updated with pleated sleeves and star-shaped yokes on the back. The collection evolves further with a modern athletic look, interpreted through KARL LAGERFELD’s lens in a palette of soft blues, creams and greys. The pieces can be worn effortlessly from day to night, including a colour-blocked pleated dress with a sheer top; an organza silk sweatshirt; a silk shirt-dress; and an oversized bouclé biker jacket with an asymmetrical zip. There is also a selection of versatile outerwear, with sporty styles that pair with feminine dresses. The statement piece is a modern bomber in high-density duchess satin, with a zipper down the back that can be closed for a more fitted silhouette. Fully embracing “athleisure” style, the collection includes sweatshirts with sequin sleeves, relaxed trousers, and iconic baseball shirt silhouettes. A tight palette of black and white is offset by metallic details, which add an elegant touch. Emphasizing the celestial aesthetic is a silver foil-coated sweatshirt with a KARL LAGERFELD logo graphic. Finally, the collection includes three statement pieces: an open-back jumpsuit with a silk top; a bomber with sheer organza sleeves; and a black knit jumpsuit with a satin tuxedo stripe on the leg.
ACCESSORIES
The iconic K/Signature returns with a new camera bag silhouette and three new colourways: black, soft rose or mystic blue. The K/Signature Perforated is a large unlined leather shopper, perforated with eyelets that spell “Karl.” Adding a colourful pop is the two-toned K/Signature Glaze — with contrasting colours on the body and flap — and the K/Signature Essential in bright sunflower yellow, lollipop pink or deep petrol. The K/Signature Gloss is available in three lustrous options: blue or silver with gunmetal hardware, and glistening rose gold with matching hardware. Finally, the K/Signature Krystal makes a luxe statement, with glistening black Swarovski crystals on a black base. Karl Lagerfeld’s famous cat, Choupette, inspires two new ranges: K/Rocky Choupette features cat-like ears made from eyelets and studs, while K/Kat Lock has a brushed bronze or gunmetal exterior lock that’s shaped like the silhouette of a cat. The new K/Klassik Pins range is embellished with iconic KARL LAGERFELD motifs on pins, including sunglasses, a camera, Choupette, leather gloves, and more. In “athleisure” style, the K/Sporty range is designed in all black with webbed straps and a debossed KARL stamp. For elegant evenings, minaudieres showcase glittery degradés, 3D graphics and pearl appliqués. New silhouettes include a treasure box, cigarette box, and a sporty minaudiere with a small handle and webbing strap. The bag offering is further complemented by an assortment of small accessories including silk scarves, beanies with sequin cat ears and an embroidered “Karl” baseball cap. Leather gloves are embellished with rhinestones, cat-shaped pearls, geo stones, chains and studs.
FOOTWEAR
The Celestia range showcases a mix of studs, stars and pearls on supple black and white leather. The details appear on a classic espadrille, a slip-on sneaker, a runner, and a heeled boot. Tapping into the “athleisure” trend, sneakers are crafted from metallic leathers in silver, gold and copper; silhouettes include a slip-on with a bow detail, a cat toe trainer and a lace-up runner. Additionally, a range of sporty runners are designed with webbing tape and stamped with graphic KARL LAGERFELD logos. Playful KARL pins appear on espadrilles, boucle slip-ons, Kreepers and napa leather ballerinas. Aligned with the Choupette theme are a slip-on sneaker, a ballerina and a heeled boot embellished with whiskers, ears and pearl appliqués. Finally, the iconic Karl Lagerfeld signature motif appears on a stiletto heel and a platform sandal. As stars begin to shine in the evening twilight, party heels are crafted from sparkling gunmetal glitter, velvet, studs and metallic specchio leathers.
